To do lists can be quite helpful and unhelpful at the same time.
They can be helpful as it can keep you motivated in your day and give you direction on what you need to achieve.
But then on the other hand, to do lists might make you feel negative that you didnt get “everything” done on the list. Therefore once again the cycle of negative thoughts go through your head about feeling hopeless, unable to cope, not good enough etc.
To do lists for me, give me a sense of direction during the day. I feel less stressed when I have written things I need to get done down on paper because it is out of my head and down in my diary.
I have a perfectionist personality which I have worked extremely hard to make more in line with reality so now when I am low and struggling to do anything, if I do one task then thats an achievement. As we know with depression we feel that we are useless, so when we are really low, one task is fantastic as that means you have fought those feelings and got a task done.
Mind you I have great statisfaction of crossing the task out!
Do you use to do lists? Are they positive or negative for you?
